New Zealand News, Tues 2 August 2005

Hi folks

Since arriving in Christchurch NZ I've started some Computer classes at the Chch Polytech college which is just 15 minutes walk away from my Mum's flat in the inner city area

I hope to complete both the introductory computer course as well as one other, during the time I'm here in NZ. Also one at least, one day horticulture course and a Capoeira Brazilian self defence dance class (methinks I'll just be a spectator on that one). I signed up for the ($ 10) Brazilian Capoeira, in part anyway, because it entitles me to a student ID card, and free web and email access, which the free computer and horticulture units do not.

My student enrolment and ID card allows me "some" email and web access, I dunno how much, I guess when it stops working and tells me I have to goto the IT help desk and pay for a top-up, I'll know I've had my limit, eh !

The weather here's been "as expected" for a 43 degree south lattitude, near maritime climate, during this Mid Winter period. Days mostly 11 to 17 C, sometimes rainy on and off, sometimes frosty mornings, becoming a fine sunny day. Oh well I grew up here, I can take it, for another month or so.

I have a genuine fur coat, long length to keep me warm on the colder days, and a fake fur jacket, also bought cheaply 2nd hand while in Sydney/NSW, for on the somewhat warmer days as I wander around. So far I haven't missed a day, going to the computer class' earliest session every day of the week (M-F 8 am, Sat 9 am and Sun 10 am). This morning was thick fog as I walked through the gloom to the college building where the computer classes are held. Afternoons I sort out the tiny garden back at the flat or wander around the inner city shopping area etc

Gotta go no folks, gotta walk back to Mum's and grab a spot of lunch before returning this afternoon for an assessment (exam) part of the computer course later this afternoon
