Pentium Processing Proceeding
Hiya folks
Last night with telephone support (yep I "phoned a friend") from 4000 kms away, I successfully reFormatted the hard drive and reloaded Windows 98 so I got this Pentium going again.
I'd been without it for a year since it got infected with a homepage hijacker Trojan-virus thing
Ok it's only the earliest simplest and slowest Pentium but still has a 56 k modem etc (and other specs far and away above the 486's)
Oh I'm not "bagging" the other computer. My original 486 with a slow modem has been a lifesaver, keeping me online this last year or so. However running W95 means you simply can't access many websites nowadays. And with so many websites s-0-0- complex, they take a-g-e-s to load
cheers

Well, you may or maybe not be happy to know that mine fell over today, as well. Didn't need to reformat or reinstall anything, but I had to take it to Hunter Apana techs to fix it, when it wouldn't boot.
Turned out to be a faulty FLOPPY cable!
It's a shame so many websites are complicated nowadays. I prefer older ones which are faster to load. People seem to design sites without bearing in mind some of us still have 56k modems!
